Welcome
My name is Andrew Boswell and I am a Utilitarian Ceramic Artist. I am interested in making artistic objects which function in our daily life. My goal is to bring my sense of artistic perfection into our own personal living spaces. As much as I appreciate the paintings hanging on the walls of the MoMA or the sculptures placed on the pedestals in the Met, nothing excites me more than holding a coffee mug which has been made through a clear creative artistic process. I want to make art which I can hold, touch, use and enjoy with friends. For these reasons I am interested in Utilitarian Art. Clay's versatility excites me with possibilities and calls me to be a Ceramic Artist.
My original experience with clay came from my father, and potter, Ray Boswell. To him I owe the founding of my skills in clay and on the potter's wheel. My mother, Theresa Boswell, a jeweler and gallery owner helped broaden my sense of Utlitarian Art. Attending the Rochester Institute of Technology for Ceramics with Julia Galloway, Rick Hirsch and Liz Howe turned my passion with clay into a profession.
Currently I am living in Harlem, (New York City, NY) and working in Sugar Loaf at the Bostree Studio. I am working on expanding and further developing my line as pottery and taking some time to work on a few sculptures. I am also teaching 3 classes to adults, focusing mainly on wheel throwing but with the freedom to explore sculpture.
I hope you enjoy my website. My pottery is made of the finest non-toxic earthly products and is microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. If you are interested in purchasing any of my work, you can find me in the Bostree Gallery in Sugar Loaf, "60 Main" in New Paltz and also on Etsy.com.
Thank you for visiting my site.
